A BBC news story today reveals the case of a man in Colorado who, after suffering dreadful toothache, eventually discovered the cause was a 4 inch nail lodged in his skull.

What worries me though is the final comment: “Doctors at the hospital said it was the second time a patient had failed to notice a nailgun had fired a nail into their heads.”
There are some benefits to being a commuter. Scotrail have cancelled all trains due to the high winds last night and are not providing a bus replacement service.
Tragically, that means I am having to “work from home” today. I can check my e-mail and er that’s it.

There was a TV report last night on an aid convoy leaving Scotland with supplies for victims of the Tsunami. As the camera panned across the warehouse where they are sorting the donated goods, I distinctly saw two pairs of roller skates !
Why is it that, when disaster strikes, people feel the need to sort out their cupboards and donate their old cack ? I’m sure those receiving the aid packages will be delighted to receive their roller skates, burgundy curtains and 1970s vintage duvet covers.
Perhaps some cash would be more useful ?
I’ve been exploring the odd world of podcasting while on my holidays – the most bizarre so far is at www.apeboymonkeygirl.com where a guy records his daily show while on the toilet.
He seems to enjoy experimenting with his diet and reporting on the outcomes. I believe this to be of significant scientific interest and should be introduced into the high school curriculum as a matter of urgency. Far more interesting than Bunsen burners and dissecting gerbils.
This week, he has mostly been eating corn……
