On the way into work this morning I passed a couple of girls coming out of the backpackers hostel. They had the traditional backpack but they were both weighed down with 2 pillows each that were as big as their bags ! It reminded me that, on holiday recently, I saw a school outing where they were all carrying their own individual pillows.
Perhaps they have all had bad experiences with grubby pillows ? but I know I’ve never stayed anywhere where they have actually failed to provide a pillow. It kind of ruins the image of backpacking – traveling light to see the world but carrying a bloody great pink pillow around with you.
Although I’ve never been back-packing, I also fail to see the point in taking a pillow.
I have kipped over many a night in friends houses using only the clothes I’ve been wearing as a head rest (often on the floor) and felt no worse for wear the following morning.
Well, maybe the odd hangover.
Maybe if I’d had a pink pillow…
