I drove past my old school yesterday. It is currently in the throes of a major renovation and appears to be being completely re-built.
This is long overdue since I recall the cardboard walls looking worse for wear 13 years ago when I left. However, I am less certain about the sign that has been placed at the entrance to this emerging development.
“Firhill Learning Village” it announces to anyone in the area who actually learned to read. I wonder how much some education department based bureaucrat got paid to come up with that one.
Probably the closest High School to where I grew up and subsequently attented, I may have had an objection or two had it been called “Firhill Learning Village” back then.
The thought of being a 1st year and getting asked “Which school do you go to?”
You can bet the bureaucrat’s kids won’t be going there!
And thankfully, I learned to read before I went to “Firhill High”.

Whilst it is clearly ludicrous to call a school a learning village, I would like to point out that there is nothing wrong with being an educational bureaucrat. At least until I stop being one in a couple of months 😉
